Tyron Safety Bands
Although Tyron Safety Bands are a superb product that do their job well, from a tyre fitter’s point of view they are not straight forward.

If you have your caravan serviced and have to have your tyres replaced, normally the fitting is a relatively easy, low cost job.

However, if you see the little red ‘Tyron’ sticker on the wheel it can add expensive time to the job. Instructions are not normally supplied and without them it can sometimes add 45 minutes to the job. Please print this and keep safely in our caravan in case you have a puncture or other tyre failure.

1. Break the bead (push the tyre sidewall away from the edge of the rim) on one side only. If both beads are broken the bottom one would have moved upwards and then when the top one is pushed down to expose the well there may not be sufficient room to fully expose it. Do not clamp on a standard tyre fitting machine.

2. One side of the tyre has to be pushed downwards to expose the well which the Tyron band covers. If the wheel is put on a flat surface it is difficult to push the tyre downwards enough. Find something on which to rest the wheel rim to raise the tyre from the work surface/floor. Clamp an old wheel rim (preferably a size smaller than the wheel being fitted) onto the tyre fitting machine and this wheel can be used as a table on which to place the wheel being fitted with Tyron.

3. Push the tyre sidewall downwards and fit the Tyron bands in the well, with the arrow (in the centre of each band) pointing downwards (away from the valve).

4. Join the bands with one connector positioned across the valve. Keep bands clear of valve.

5. Join opposite ends of bands with other connector and tighten both connectors an equal distance using the fitting tool supplied. Ideal tightening torque for BOTH connectors is 6.6lbs/ft (9 Nm) for steel bands or 3.3lbs/ft (4.5 Nm) for alloy bands.

6. Connectors are supplied assembled in the correct order and should not be disassembled.

7. Re-inflate the tyre. Fit a safety wheel identification sticker on the rim near the valve. Re-balance on high performance vehicles.

Keep your fitting tool and instructions with the vehicle, your tyre fitter/repairer will need to use it when changing or repairing your tyre.
